The journal entitled Making Connections: Language Activities for Creating Interpersonal Tolerance in the Classroom tells what is the importance of making a good connection between the student in classroom. Renaund & Tannenbaum (2013) stated that some of the student facing some problems which makes them cannot trust other students, this caused by their perception that they belongs to some part of ethnic, political, nation, and etc. So that, this journal has a purpose to make ESL.EFL children have interpersonal relationship after get some treatments or activities from this research. The activities that can promote interpersonal relation between the students are by using camp. The subjects of this research are the students that from the northern border area of Hispaniola, the Caribbean island shared by the counters Haiti and Dominican Republic.
The four level of cultural awareness is related to the mutual reflection and interaction at four levels, those are self, family, community, and the region & world at large. In the first and second level, self and family, some of activities that student can do to improve cultural awareness are name pantomime, what do you usually eat for breakfast, four corners, self-portrait, and my head. Then in the third level, community, some activities are language experience approach, mapping, interviews, and Islamabad procedure. Then in the last, the fourth level is region or world. Some activities that can be used in this level are stories, song & chants, and movies. According to this journal, by using this method or activities, the student be more enthusiastic in English and with their friends, so that the students have a high self confidence in speaking English. Students are more tolerance with their friends from the different background and also be more confident in speaking and delivered their ideas.
Actually, this journal are difficult to be implemented in Indonesian classroom, because the majority of the parents will not allowed the students to have too much activities outside the classroom, and nowadays theres still some of school do not allowed to have an activity outside the class. Then, I think this activities or this journal can be implemented in the some classroom and region which located in conflict area, which has big problem relate with tolerance. So that in the conclusion, this journal is difficult to be implemented in my future classroom.
